FRPI Helps Advance the Industry!
Now in its fourth year as the industry’s only fiberglass reinforced plastic materials certification non-profit organization, FRPI is leading the way in a new era of quality administration for corrosion resistant process equipment specifiers and buyers.  FRPI has made significant progress in advancing material quality, with over $1.1 million in certified equipment installed and another $2.7 million worth of equipment currently going through the certification process.  Additional progress has been made through hosting and participating in industry educational seminars, making new publications available that ease control of material quality plus encouraging teamwork among FRP industry leaders that is resulting in quality improvements benefiting specifiers and buyers of FRP process equipment.
FRPI Laminate Certification Manual Document “Reviewed” With first hand experience specifying and going through the FRPI Certification process plus owning Certified equipment, the Board of Advisors unanimously voted on acceptance of the FRPI Laminate Certification Manual as a “Reviewed” and accepted document.  This initial document will be called the 2004 Edition.  The Board is staffed with seven (7) professional engineers, one (1) of which is the past Chairman of the ASME RTP-1 committee for nine (9) years.  Industry and the general public are invited to contact FRPI and comment on the Certification process controlled by the Manual.  All comments will be taken into consideration by the Board for future editions of the Manual.
10’ Ø FRP Sodium Hypochlorite Tank
First FRPI Certified Tanks Installed at Upper Blackstone
Camp, Dresser and McKee specified FRPI Laminating Process and Laminate Certification for three (3) 10’ 15% Sodium Hypochlorite and two (2) 9’ 38% Sodium Bisulfite FRP chemical feed tanks needed by their client, the Upper Blackstone WPAD in Millbury, MA.  Walsh Construction handled the purchase of the tanks from An-Cor Industrial Plastics and installation.  The CDM lead project engineer commented that this was the first time she didn’t have to worry about the quality conformance for the FRP tank section on one of her projects.  Everyone on the project team volunteered how very pleased they were with the success of the installation and FRPI’s Certification process!

SESD Controls Corrosion with FRPI Certified Ductwork
At the direction of the South Essex Sewerage District Project Manager in Salem, MA, Tighe and Bond Specified FRPI Laminate Certification for over 1,300’ of large diameter round and rectangular ductwork needed to replace a failing stainless steel odor control duct system that was in service for less than ten (10) years.  Enterprise Equipment Company, a subcontractor to Methuen Construction, purchased the ductwork, duct system engineering and installation support from An-Cor Industrial Plastics.  The Owner, Engineer and Contractors said this is the smoothest installation and best looking ductwork they have seen.

New Tools Coming Soon to Help Specify Certification and Manage FRP Quality
FRPI has developed equipment specification boiler plates in Construction Standards Institute (“CSI”) format available on MS Word downloadable documents for your use in specifying Standard “ASTM” and Heavy “ASME” Duty Tanks.  A Resin brand to FRPI Laminate Specification cross reference has also been developed so it’s just as easy to specify FRP as it is steel and thermoplastic materials of construction.  Click on the Resource Center for access to these and other tools to help you better manage FRP material quality!
