| How do I specify Certification?
The Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics Institute (FRPI), the organization that performs the work facilitating certification, is very interested in making the process of specifying certification easy and very effective for you. To specify certification, the Owner or their Engineer simply follows the steps below:
Step 1
Purchase the standard practices for Laminating Process and Laminate Certification from FRPI and learn more about how FRPI can help you control the quality you need through specifying certification when you order a Publication from the Resource Center.
Step 2
Order a publication from the Resource Center for the appropriate laminate construction specification from FRPI. If an appropriate laminate specification is not available or you are not sure which one to use please contact FRPI for help.
Step 3
Assess your situation through use of the table below and then take the steps suggested.
NOTE: If you have a draft specification to start with and can use an FRPI standard laminate, then you are ready to move onto step 4 and edit your specification. Under the terms of membership, FRPI will review Class A members draft specifications and assist with effectively writing laminate certification into the requirements for the project. Simply contact FRPI for help. Non-members who would like specification writing assistance are encouraged to Join FRPI or contact a Certified Manufacturer and get help so their specifications are written in the most effective manor.
Step 4
Delete any and all language that relates to laminates from your specification sections: Submittals, Referenced Standards, Quality Assurance, Laminate Materials, Shop Inspection and Testing, Field Inspection and Testing plus any other section with reference to laminate requirements. This step is intended to eliminate conflicting information in the specification, which could compromise the quality required for the project.
Step 5
Open and save the Microsoft Word document Specify Certification, then copy and paste into your specification sections the suggested language offered.
